Nike Gato feat. Saptieu Jeng and Axel Wahl
The Streets Will Never Forget
With football and fashion at the peak of their co-existence, Nike has reached into its illustrious archive to reintroduce one of its most popular indoor sports shoes, the Nike Gato. Initially launched in 2010 as part of the Nike5 series, the Nike Gato was crafted for sala (aka futsal) and featured Nike’s game-changing Lunarlon cushioning for a lighter, more comfortable feel than any other indoor shoe before. Now, the Nike Gato is back better than ever, adapted as a lifestyle sneaker for the streets yet still solid enough for a kickabout, thanks to its premium leather and suede construction atop a durable gum rubber outsole.
To highlight the Nike Gato, we linked up with two Stockholm-based creatives – designer and founder of Stockholm’s Wawa Print Shop, Axel Wahl, and Saptieu Jeng, co-founder of the Stockholm-based jewelry brand Group Eleven Studios, which specializes in making grills.
Drawing inspiration from some of the beautiful game’s most iconic players and the role they played in making football an inspiration off the pitch for fashion, Axel and Saptieu offered their interpretation of the GATO's heritage, showcasing that in the same way that these players have inspired the saying, "The streets will never forget,” the way we style a look can have people saying the same thing from a fashion perspective.
